Leaders
-
Logan Place (Lakeview, N.Y., Frontier) led the Mounties in kills, picking up six, with
Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio, Bishop Hartley) and
Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) each contributing five more.
-
Liam Craw (Palmerston North New Zealand, Freyberg High School) recorded a team high seven digs for Mount Aloysius. Place nearly matched his offensive output on the other end, picking up five digs throughout the contest.
How It Happened
- Both teams struggled to find a groove early; though the Bearcats struggled with serve and return, the Mounties had trouble getting around the continued offense of the hosts. The first set stayed relatively even until Saint Vincent found themselves leading at 15-14, where a string of Mountie errors would give the Bearcats a five point run. Saint Vincent held this lead, trading points until they took the set 25-19.
- The second set was reminiscent of the first, as neither team was able to pull ahead early. With the set tied at 12-all, it was the offensive game of the Bearcats that would position the hosts ahead, going on a six point run off three service aces and three kills. Once again, Saint Vincent was able to hold this lead through back-and-forth late set play, taking the second 25-19.
- The third was a close contest, neither team able to grab control of a lead for any length of time. Mount Aloysius was able to carve out a four point lead at 19-15 thanks to a string of opponent errors, but the Bearcats rallied back, erasing the deficit late in the set. While Saint Vincent's largest lead of the set was only two points, it was their attacking game which came through at the end, and the Bearcats sealed the set and match 28-26 with a pair of kills.
Into the Box Score
- The Mounties were unable to keep up with Saint Vincent's offensive output, as the hosts tallied 43 kills to Mount Aloysius's 23.
- The defensive end holds a similar story, as the Bearcats doubled their opponent's dig total, tallying 38 to Mount Aloysius's 19.
