Easter Weekend Sweep Moves Mounties to 2-2 in AMCC Play

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team picked up two important AMCC victories, on Saturday, sweeping a double-header from Penn State Altoona.

Leaders
- Tyler Suder (Boswell, Pa. / North Star) went 4-for-9 on the day, picking up two hits in each contest, while also scoring a run in both games.
- Sophomore Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) tossed a complete game in Game One, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. He also struck out four batters. As a hitter, Quade went 2-for-4 in Game One and scored twice in Game Two.
- The Mountie bullpen proved to be an asset in Game Two, as five pitchers combined for 3.0 innings and only allowed one hit. Freshman Matthew Watkins (Broad Top City, Pa. / Tussey Mountain) earned his first career victory, stranding two runners in the eighth inning and Dylan Brown (La Plata, Md. / La Plata) picked up his first career save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

How It Happened
Game One
- A 1-2-3 top of the first inning allowed the Mounties to score first. Suder led off the bottom of the first with a single and worked his way around to third. Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly, scoring Suder, to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
- Penn State Altoona responded with two runs in the top of the second inning, the second of which was unearned after a Mountie miscue extended the inning. The Mounties tied up the game in the bottom of the second, when Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, Va. / Prince William County) scored on a wild pitch, leaving it 2-2 after two frames.
- After leaving two runners on base in the third inning, the Mounties grabbed a lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) drove in the first run on a single, which scored  Gavin Constein (Columbia, Pa. / Hempfield), who opened the inning with a single of his own. Bushey would later score when Ryan Lynn (Butler, Pa. / Butler) walked with the bases loaded, putting the Mounties up 4-2. Following a Lion pitching change, Quade scored the third run of the inning on a steal of home, adding a much-needed insurance run.
- The Lions cut the deficit to one run, in the sixth inning, as they used two hits and another Mountie error to their advantage. Despite closing the gap, the Lions could not scratch another run across in the seventh, giving the Mounties a 5-4 victory.

Game Two
- Penn State Altoona jumped ahead first in Game Two, as they scored a run in the second inning on two doubles and two runs in the third, to lead 3-0. The Mounties answered with two runs of their own, in the third inning, without registering a hit. Constein walked to lead off the inning, then advanced to second on a fielder's choice that got mishandled, giving them two runners on base. Quade walked to load the bases and Constein would end up scoring on another fielder's choice. Quade would eventually score after two consecutive batters were hit by a pitch, moving him from second to home. 3-2 Penn State Altoona.
- The Lions doubled their lead in the fourth inning, after a two-out catcher's interference call allowed a runner to reach base. That same runner would steal second and score on a two-out single, making it 4-2.
- Both teams had action in the sixth inning. Penn State Altoona got a clutch two-out hit with two runners in scoring position, extending their lead to 6-2. Mount Aloysius would follow that by batting around and scoring four runs with only three hits. Bell and Quade each earned RBIs on bases loaded walks, while Zack Peck (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Lynn had a two-out RBI single to drive in the tying run. Heading to the seventh inning, it was a brand new ballgame.
- The Mountie bullpen was tested in the eighth inning, getting into a first and third situation with two outs. With Watkins pitching, one of his pitches bounced away from the Mountie catcher. The Lion runner on third base attempted to score, but was tagged out as Jared Houser (State College, Pa. / State College) got to the ball and back in time, ending the inning and keeping the game tied.
- Mount Aloysius used that momentum in the bottom half of the frame. Peck was hit by a pitch with one out and J. Brown followed him with a double to the left field fence, allowing Peck to score from first. Lynn followed with an RBI single, giving the Mounties an 8-6 lead.
- In the ninth inning, D. Brown came in and tossed a 1-2-3 inning to earn the save and move the Mounties to 2-2 in AMCC play.

Into the Box Scores
- In Game One, Mount Aloysius tallied nine stolen bases as a team, including Quade's steal of home. They were a perfect 9-for-9 in Game One and 12-for-12 overall.
- The Mounties won Game Two, but still left 12 runners on base. They were out-hit by the Lions but reached base on five walks and six hit batters. The Mountie pitchers only walked four batters in the contest and did not hit any.
