SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Over the weekend, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team opened up the 2023 Season at the Great Lakes Cross Over event at Cedar Point. They played four games over Friday and Saturday.

Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) led the Mounties offensively with 41 kills for the weekend, including a season-high, 15 kills, against Alma. She added 14 digs in that game, giving her 40 overall.

Sydney Lechner (Bellwood, Pa. /Â Bellwood-Antis), as they had 51 and 46, respectively.

Kadence Della Valle (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) led the team in digs with 57 over the four contests. FreshmanÂ
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Â Shaler) had a team-high, five blocks over her first four collegiate games.
How It Happened
- In Game One against Kenyon, the Mounties won the first set, but were out-hit in the next three to fall 3-1. The Owls tallied double-digit kills in all four sets, as they hit .204, while the Mounties hit .165 for the contest.
- Oberlin bested the Mounties in Game Two, committing just eight hitting errors in the entire game. Mount Aloysius hit .038 with 23 kills and 20 hitting errors. They dropped all three sets scoring no more than 16 points in a set.
- Mount Aloysius opened up the second day slow, against Olivet, but showed marked improvement as the game went on. However, the Comets had twice as many kills and hit .320 for the contest, handing the Mounties their third loss of the weekend.
- In the fourth and final game, Mount Aloysius had their best single-set performance to open the contest with 16 kills and just three errors, taking a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Alma tied up the match in set two and went on to win the next two, as well, finishing off the game with a 3-1 victory. The Mounties managed to out-hit the Scots in the game, with a .146 hitting percentage, as Alma had a .127 percentage.
Looking Ahead
- Mount Aloysius will return home, this week, as they host Geneva on September 6.
- Geneva opened the season at SUNY Morrisville, with a 2-1 weekend. They lost to Johnson & Wales and Penn State Behrend, before beating Morrisville.
- The Golden Tornadoes have won the previous two meetings against the Mounties, as they've met in both of the last two seasons. However, this will be their first visit to Cresson.
