Alfred, N.Y. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball posted their strongest offensive performance of the year in Saturday's victory against the Alfred State Pioneers, improving to sixth place in AMCC conference standings.
Sophomore guard
Jade Love-Morris (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) led the Mounties from the tip, scoring 11 of her team-leading 20 points in the first quarter. Love-Morris would also set up her teammates with fantastic efficiency, recording 7 assists for the game without a single turnover. The Mounties would score 31 as a team across the opening ten minutes, shooting 60/62/100 as a team, outscoring Alfred State by 14. The visitors also addressed previous issues with ball movement, recording 22 assists as a team while committing just ten turnovers.
The Mounties would maintain a 20-point separation from their opponent for most of the contest, with the team as a whole locked-in on both sides of the court. Freshman guard
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) recorded a strong performance off the bench, scoring 18 points including a team-high 4 three-pointers. The Mounties shot efficiently from deep all game, with freshman guards
Lauryn Kitchen (DuBois, Pa., Clearfield) and
Calaya Holland (Upper Marlboro, Md., Dr. Henry A. Wise) joining Love-Morris and Isaacs with over 40% shooting from deep.
The Mountie defensive effort was not outshone by their offensive output, as visitors would hold the Pioneers to just 22% shooting from the floor. Mount Aloysius displayed their strongest defensive in the fourth quarter, where they would hold the hosts to just nine points in ten minutes. The Mountie perimeter defense was especially potent, as Alfred State would shoot just 11% from three. Freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) locked down the paint, recording 4 blocks alongside a 14-point, nine-rebound stat line.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball travels back to New York this Wednesday, January 10th, to take on Wells College. Wells enters the contest 0-10 overall and 0-6 in conference, coming off a 24-105 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
