CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius soccer teams hosted the Penn State Behrend Lions this Saturday, Oct. 12 in AMCC regular season competition.
Men's Game
The Mounties faced a strong defensive showing from their opponents, as the Lions would open the game settling into steady back line defense as the hosts maintained possession. The Mountie defense would falter first, giving up the opening goal in the first ten minutes of action following a Lion long ball. The Mounties would find shooting opportunities throughout the first, but struggle to convert, going into halftime down 0-1.
Wasting little time, senior
Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France, Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) would even the score just three minutes into the second. As the game increased physicality, Behrend would convert another opportunity with thirty minutes left to play. Despite several shots, the second half would tick away with the Mounties struggling to even the score, until an 81st minute shot from
Bill Dohren (Stockholm, Sweden, Rudbecks Gymnasium) would find the back of the net. With both teams pushing to the end of regulation, each team found a look to win the game but could not finish the play, ending the contest in a 2-2 tie. The Mounties now sit at 3-1-1 in conference, and 7-4-2 overall.
Women's Game
The Mountie women found stiff competition from the Lions, who currently lead the AMCC standings. The hosts would weather three early game shots before Behrend would score, putting the visitors up 1-0 after 18 minutes of play. Focusing on steady developing offense and possession control, Behrend would find a handful of shots across the remainder of the half, but the Mountie back line would hold strong, entering halftime down facing a one goal deficit.
The second half would prove tougher for the Mounties, as a flurry of shots throughout the half would break through the hosts' defense. The Lions would score three across the closing half, while the Mounties would fail to generate any shot attempts across the full 90 minutes of action. An 84th minute Behrend shot would prove the final goal of the game, as the hosts would fall 0-4 to the visitors. The Mounties fall to 2-2-1 in AMCC play, and 3-8-2 on the season.
