Mountie Soccer Splits Against Bobcats

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's soccer program collected a win against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats, while the women's team dropped the conference match up this Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Men's Game

The Mounties found themselves on the wrong side of the whistle early, collecting ten first half fouls to their opponents' two. Despite these breaks in offensive action, the visitors put together an impressive first 15 minutes, shooting six times while Greensburg struggled to mount a counteroffensive. Two of the Mounties' shots would find the back of the net, with Luke Traynor (London, England, Woodhouse College) scoring the solo attempt and Daniel Irujo (Pamplona, Spain, Sagrado Corazon) setting up Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) to push the visitors' lead to two. Following the initial rush, the Mounties would be slowed in part to the aforementioned foul trouble, putting just one shot on goal in the remaining 30 minutes of the half.

Despite a 14-1 shot disparity across the second half, Greensburg would show signs of life early, putting in a 58th minute goal to put the games within arms reach at 2-1 to the Mounties. Coming out of halftime addressing the foul troubles, the Mounties found a much more consistent offensive flow, and were able to answer the Bobcat goal only three minutes later, with Braden Callahan (Duncansville, Pa., Hollidaysburg) scoring off an assist from Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run). Although the visitors would three more shots on goal, the 60th minute score would hold for the rest of the game, ending the contest in a 3-1 Mountie victory. The Mounties improve to a 4-1-1 record in the AMCC.

Women's Game

Playing in cold and wet conditions, the game would open with both team cautiously looking for opportunities to push forward. Despite a slow developing offensive game plan from both programs, Greensburg would find success pushing forward, putting six shots on goal across the opening forty-five minutes of play. The Mounties would find defend well, but struggle to generate any looks at the goal, ending the first still tied at 0-0 but facing an eight to zero shot differential.

The second half would see fewer shot attempts from the visitors, but an uptick in accuracy. It would take just three minutes for the Bobcats to put one in the back of the net, scoring on their first shot of the game. Struggling to find answers for their opponent's presence inside their half, the Mounties would give up a second goal six minutes later, putting Greensburg up 2-0 on two shots. While the Mountie defense would hold for the remaining 35 minutes of action, the hosts' offense still struggled, generating their first shot attempt in the 78th minute. Although the Mounties would put a final minute prayer on target, the Bobcat goalie would scoop up the attempt without trouble, ending the game in a 2-0 Bobcat victory. The Mounties fall to 2-3-1 in the conference.
