Bearcats End Mounties' Winning Streak in Straight Sets

LATROBE, Pa. -- On Wednesday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team made the short trip to Latrobe, for a non-conference matchup against Saint Vincent. The Bearcats started out strong and never looked back, winning in three straight sets.

Mount Aloysius (7-8) fell behind 4-0 in the early going, but were able to stay close. They cut the Bearcat lead to one point on multiple occasions, including at 14-13. Unfortunately, Saint Vincent scored 11 of the next 13 points, including seven kills, to win the first set convincingly, 25-15.

The Mounties made it a little bit further in the second set. This time they held a slim lead at times, as the lead changed hands. This time, a kill by Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) tied the score at 16. The Bearcats again scored nine of the next 11 points, with five kills, to finish the set off, 25-18.

In the third set, the Mounties got down by as many as five points, but fought back to get within two, 21-19. Saint Vincent would register the next four kills to end the set, 25-19, cutting the Mountie winning streak off at three games.

Richards led the Mounties with 13 kills and 23 digs. The 23 digs were a game-high. Maecy Tuskovich (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) registered 19 digs and Matie Rupp (York, Pa. / West York) had 14, for the Mounties.

Mount Aloysius had 27 kills and 19 hitting errors, for an .059 percentage. In comparison, Saint Vincent had 50 kills and 10 errors, which gave them a significant advantage and a .288 hitting percentage.

The Mounties will head back out on the road, this weekend, for three games. They will first stop at Susquehanna, on Friday, for a single game against the Riverhawks. Saturday, they will head to Misericordia for a tri-match against both the Cougars and Mount Saint Mary.
