CRESSON, Pa. -- With senior
Juan Camacho's
(Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) 85th minute goal against Penn State Altoona, the senior midfielder became the Mounties all time leader in career goals and career points, with 43 and 107 respectively. The Mountie men were able to overcome the visiting Lions, while the women fell to Penn State Altoona on the road.
Men's Game
Despite solid defending from the visitors, the game went the way of the Mounties for nearly the entire 90 minutes. The Lions would shoot just once in the game, while the Mounties would have twenty-one attempts. The Mounties would score first in the 27th minute, with
Hippolyte Delhaes (Bayonne, France, Lycee Saint-Louis VIlla Pia) converting the
Hippolyte Delhaes (Bayonne, France, Lycee Saint-Louis VIlla Pia) pass to put the hosts up 1-0. As the first half came to a close, a mishandled ball from Altoona's goalkeeper would allow
Braden Callahan (Duncansville, Pa., Hollidaysburg) to find the back of the net, sending his team into the second with a 2-0 lead.
Despite a steady stream of shot attempts, the Mounties would struggle to find the back of the net in the second, finding difficulties against both the Lions' back line and the off sides whistle. Finally, with just five minutes left, Camacho would score his record-setting goal off a
Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run) assist, setting the new mark for career goals and points for the Mountie men's soccer program.
The Mounties finish the regular season 6-1-1 in AMCC play and 10-4-2 overall, earning the three seed for the AMCC postseason tournament. The Mounties will host six seed Pitt-Bradford this Saturday, November 2nd, in first round action.
Women's Game
Although the game would end up being a low scoring affair, both teams found looks at the net from the onset. Fighting off three early shots from their opponents, the Mounties would respond with four first half shot attempts of their own, but struggle to put consistent looks on goal. Physical play would slow down the pace of match, as the teams would combine for a near even share of twenty-three called fouls for the game.
Scoreless after 80 minutes of play, the Mountie back line would falter down the stretch when, following an off sides call against the Lions, the Mounties would give up possession and find themselves facing a 1-0 deficit with under ten minutes to play. The final of the twenty-two combined shots for the contest would be the hosts' goal, and the game clock would run out with the Mounties falling by a single goal.
The loss moves the Mountie women to 3-4-1 in conference play and 4-10-2 overall, earning the team the four seed for the AMCC tournament. The Mounties host five seed La Roche this Saturday, November 2nd in first round action.
