Railroads Send Horse-Based Transit Into Obsolescence As Mounties Fall To Altoona

Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball fell to conference rival Penn State Altoona this Wednesday, January 31st.

The Mounties would open well, responding to an active crowd by going three-for-three from the field. Down 11 after seven minutes of action, the Lions began heating up, hitting a pair of threes as the first came to a close, going into the second down eight. Unfortunately for the Mounties, neither their hot shooting nor the Lion's cold shooting would last beyond the opening ten minutes. Mount Aloysius would shoot 41% in the second, a 16% decline from their first quarter marks, while Altoona would improve their shooting by the same margin. Freshman forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) and sophomore guard Jade Love-Morris (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) would find maintain efficient scoring marks for the Mounties, combining for 40 of their team's 74 points on 67% shooting, but struggle to put consecutive possessions together down the stretch.

With the Lions battling back in the second, the Mounties would exit halftime holding a one point lead. Altoona came out of the break firing, hitting three threes in less than three minutes to suddenly grab a 10 point lead. While the Mounties fought to erase the deficit, Altoona maintained an incredible 61% from behind the arc during the second half, holding the ten point lead consistently throughout the closing twenty minutes. Sophomore Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) and freshman Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) would hit back with five combined threes, but efficiency eluded the hosts as the team would shoot just 19% from deep for the game.

Unable to overcome the hot hands, the Mounties would fall 74-82 to the Lions. Mount Aloysius would outscore the visitors 42-18 inside, while grabbing four more rebounds, but the difference in deep shooting would seal the results for Altoona.

Mount Aloysius women's basketball takes to the road to face Carlow on February 3rd. Carlow enters the contest 11-8 overall and 8-5 in conference, coming off a 79-56 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
