Pittsburgh, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball improved to a .500 AMCC record with Saturday's 73-53 win over the Carlow Celtics.
Once again, freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would lead the Mounties, scoring seven in the opening quarter en route to a 21 point, 10 rebound stat line for the game, adding in 4 blocks and 5 assists. The Mounties would come out firing on all cylinders, taking a 21-10 lead into the second, despite some struggles with turnovers. Compensating for these turnover issues, the Mounties locked in defensively, holding their opponents to just 25% shooting from the floor for the game.
Despite a cold night shooting, freshman guard
Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) had her impact felt, grabbing 12 rebounds and 4 steals across the contest. Kohlwaies's presence on the offensive glass was especially potent, with her five offensive boards helping the Mounties out rebound Carlow 42-33. Kohlwaise would also add 10 points, one of five Mounties to hit the double digit mark in the game.
Going into halftime up eight, the Mounties would come out of the break ready to put the game away, swelling their lead to 21 across the next eight minutes of game time. Focusing on interior play, the Mounties would score thirty more points in the paint than Carlow, maintaining 50% shooting from the floor for the game. Freshman guard
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) would use the space to fire from behind the arc, going 4-8 from deep. Carlow would hit just four threes for the game as a team, shooting 20%.
Holding a comfortable lead throughout the fourth, Kohlwaies would end the game with a pair of free throws, giving the Mounties a twenty point victory. Although the Mounties would end with 10 more turnovers than their opponents, they had far more success finding the open man, finishing with 15 more assists than the Celtics.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball takes on Wells College this Wednesday, February 7th at home. Wells enters the contest 0-17 overall and 0-13 in the AMCC, coming off a 78-34 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
