Mountie Women Officially Secure Postseason Berth, Dispose of Pioneers

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team improved their conference record to 8-7 (11-11 overall) with a 75-54 victory over Alfred State. The victory solidified their spot in the AMCC Postseason Tournament, which will take place February 20-24. Seeding for the tournament will be determined over the final week of the regular season.

Mount Aloysius shot 50% in the first half, on their way to a 16-point lead at the break. They continued their hot shooting and finished the game at 46%. In contrast, they limited the Pioneers to 37% shooting overall and a paltry 19% (3-for-16) in the first quarter. The Mounties led by as many as 30 points, mid-way through the fourth quarter, with very little to worry about in the second half.

Four Mounties registered double-figure scoring, led by Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla. / Cardinal Newman) and Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples), each with 14 points. Kohlwaies added five assists and three steals, while Richards dished out four assists. They shot a combined 11-for-19 (57.9%) from the floor, including a 5-for-10 effort from behind the arc.

Mount Aloysius dished out 23 total assists, with only 19 turnovers, marking just the third time this season that they've had more assists than turnovers. Five different Mounties had more than one assist in the contest.

The Mounties will travel to Pitt-Greensburg, on Wednesday, for a matchup with the Bobcats (11-12, 9-7 AMCC). The winner of Wednesday's contest will likely have a home game in the opening round of the conference tournament, next week, while the loser will likely travel to their playoff destination.
