Greensburg, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball dropped a conference game against the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats this Wednesday, February 14th.
With both teams jockeying for playoff home court advantage, Wednesday's contest would open hotly contested. The first quarter would be even throughout, with a late
Jade Love-Morris (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) jumper putting the Mounties up 2 after ten minutes of play. The second would see a dip in Mountie efficiency, with the team shooting 5% worse from the floor on 6 fewer attempts. Although the Bobcats would outscore the Mounties by ten to take an eight point lead into halftime, poor shooting from Pitt-Greensburg limited the damage as the hosts would shoot just 30% in the quarter.
Freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would open the second half scoring for the Mounties, earning six quick points for her team. Kosmack would end with a team high 26 points and 12 rebounds, one of three Mounties in double figures for points and the only Mountie with more than five rebounds. Kosmack's effort would improve the Mounties efficiency, as her team would shoot 12% better than the previous quarter in the third. However, defensive struggles and a Bobcat hot streak would keep the Mounties from pulling away as the hosts would shoot 67% from the field, including 3-4 shooting from behind the arc.
The Mounties would enter the fourth quarter down five to the hosts, looking to keep the third quarter momentum going. Unfortunately, the Mounties would struggle against the Bobcat defense, shooting just 33% in the fourth quarter including 0-5 shooting from three. Meanwhile, the Bobcats would go 9-15 from the floor including 4-6 from three for the fourth, putting away the game with solid two way play. Shooting struggles would be the difference maker; while the Mounties would outscore their opponents in the paint by 14, Pitt-Greensburg 48% three point shooting for the game would give them the advantage, while the Mounties would shoot just 15% from deep for the game.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball closes the regular season this Saturday against Hilbert College. Hilbert enters the contest 4-19 overall, coming off a 58-65 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
