Beaver Falls, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's volleyball suffered a conference defeat this Wednesday, February 28th to Geneva College.
Leaders:
- JuniorsÂ
Andrew Wlodarczyk (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) andÂ
Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio, Bishop Hartley) led the Mounties in kills, each recording 11 for the match.
- FreshmanÂ
Corey Obeldobel (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) picked up a team high 16 digs.Â
How It Happened:Â
- Both teams opened the first set putting together mini runs, collecting two or three points throughout the opening as both programs found their rhythm.
- Down 5, the Mounties would earn a 4-point swing to take the score to 14-15 as mutual issues with serving moved the set along at an even pace.Â
- Given an opportunity to attack late following another Geneva serve error at 19-22, the Mounties would immediately serve an error themselves.
- Geneva would close the first with an ace and a kill, ending the set 25-19.Â
- Taking momentum from the first, Geneva would take a 13-7 lead behind a steady stream of kills.Â
- Wlodarczyk would suddenly come alive for the Mounties, recording 5 kills over the next nine points, helping the visitors take a 15-14 lead over Geneva.Â
- Even at 18-all, Geneva would collect three quick kills to take the late set lead.Â
- Despite a late Mountie ace, the Golden Tornadoes would close the second successfully, 25-20.Â
- Both teams seemed to find similar rhythms in the third, answering one another in kind throughout the set.Â
- Trading points early, each team's longest run would immediately be answered by the other, taking the score to 15-all.
- A Mountie service error would give Geneva the gap they needed, as the hosts would collect a 4 point run to earn the 20-17 lead.Â
- Late efforts from the Mounties were not enough to overcome the servce deficiencies, and Geneva would hold on to take the third 25-21.
Into the Box Score:
- Geneva's defensive efforts up front surpassed the Mounties, with the hosts earning 12 blocks to the visitor's 3.Â
- The Mounties were slightly outpaced on kills, with Geneva earning 4 more across the match.
