GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Lacrosse team hit the road for the first time in 2024, attempting to start the season 3-0 for the first time in program history. Unfortunately for them, Thiel (2-0) had other plans, downing the Mounties, 16-4.
Thiel jumped ahead scoring the first six goals of the contest and ultimatley leading 8-1 at the end of the first quarter.Â
Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa. /Â Norwin) scored the lone goal for Mount Aloysius in the first period, on an assist from
Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, Md. / St. Maria Goretti). Thiel kept up the dominance and grew their lead to 14-1 in the third quarter before the Mounties scored another goal.
Mount Aloysius scored three of the final five goals, including a 2-2 mark in the fourth quarter, before falling 16-4.Â
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, Md. /Â Edgewood) scored twice, whileÂ
Courtney Vought (Somerset, Pa. /Â Somerset) added the final goal marker with just over a minute to play. All three goals were unassisted.
Mount Aloysius' rough start saw the Tomcats tally 10 shots on goal in the first quarter and five in the second, while the Mounties had just three total. Thiel also won the turnover battle, with nine turnovers in the first half, compared to 15 for the Mounties.
The Mounties will take some time off over Spring Break, before officially returning to the field on March 23 at Chatham.
