The Mount and the Fury: Mounties Struggle Against Chatham and Cedar Crest

Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse suffered two losses on the road, falling to Chatham on Sunday and Cedar Crest on Tuesday.

Leaders:

- Senior Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) led the Mounties in goals scored across the games, putting in two.
- Senior Courtney Vought (Somerset, PA, Somerset) led the Mounties in draw controls, recording five.

Game One (Chatham)

How It Happened:

- Chatham would prove to be the Mounties toughest competition thus far, with the visitors entering the game without regular starting goalie Zoe Swank (Romeoville, IL, Romeoville)
- It took just 30 seconds for the Cougars to score their first, with the Mounties struggling to push the ball into their opponent's side of the field.
- A late Mountie shot would find the crossbar before the first quarter would end with a final-second goal from Chatham, marking their eighth goal of the contest in just 15 minutes.
- The 2nd quarter would go no better for the Mounties, with their opponents raising the deficit to 13 going into halftime.
- Still struggling to clear the ball, the Mounties would at least defend more effectively, holding Chatham to 4 third quarter goals.
- The Mounties were able to get off a handful of shots in the fourth quarter, but could not find the back of the net as the Cougars added two to their count.
- A final minute attempt from Chatham was successful, ending the one-sided matchup 19-0 in favor of the hosts.

Into the Box Score:

- Chatham recorded three times as many shot attempts as the Mounties across the game.
- The Mounties would go just 5-12 on clear attempts for the match, while Chatham failed just one of their 14 clear attempts.

Game Two (Cedar Crest)

How It Happened:

- Similar to Sunday's game, still lacking their starting goalie, the Mounties would find themselves down from the onset as Cedar Crest would score their first just 55 seconds into the contest.
- Back and forth for the rest of the quarter, the Mounties found more success moving the ball and defending, although they were not able to convert any of the seven first quarter shot attempts.
- A break in focus gave the Mounties trouble halfway through the second, with Cedar Crest taking full advantage, scoring three in a two minute period to go up 4-0.
- Cedar Crest would score again in the second, before the Mounties would close the quarter with their first successful attack, as Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) would score the free position shot to go into halftime down 1-5.
- Coming out of halftime with energy, the Mounties would put together their best 15 minutes of the game, scoring two in the third while holding their opponents scoreless.
- Going into the fourth down 3-5, the Mounties seemed poised to make a comeback, until Cedar Crest would convert their first shot of the quarter.
- The Mounties would answer five minutes later to take the score to 4-6, but struggled defensively, with Cedar Crest again pulling away with a goal four minutes later.
- Unable to put together a final offensive charge, the Mounties would fall to their hosts 4-7.

Into the Box Score:

- The Mounties improved their ball movement up the field considerably, going 17-18 on clear attempts for the game.
- The Mounties would earn more shot attempts than Cedar Crest, attempting 25 to the host's 22.
