PITTSBURGH -- The Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team played their penultimate regular season game, on Wednesday, when they traveled to face AMCC-rival, La Roche. Trailing after three quarters, the Mounties (6-4, 4-1 AMCC) exploded for five goals and topped La Roche (2-8, 0-4 AMCC).
The first quarter was a back and forth affair.Â
Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa. / Norwin) scored in the first 30 seconds of the quarter and the last 30 seconds, accounting for two of the three Mountie markers. The Redhawks also added two goals, but the Mounties held a slim 3-2 advantage.
During the second and third quarters, the Mountie offense went stale. La Roche scored the lone goal of the second quarter and scored all three goals in the third quarter, to lead by three heading into the final 15 minutes.
Right when they needed it, the Mountie offense woke up.Â
Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, Md. / St. Maria Goretti) scored the first goal of the period, in the first minute. ThenÂ
Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County) andÂ
Jordan Turner (Grampian, Pa. /Â Curwensville) each added a goal, to tie the game at six with over 11 minutes remaining.
Over the final ten minutes, the Mountie offense produced two more goals, one fromÂ
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) and another from Geissler, giving them an 8-6 lead. Geissler led the Mounties offensively with three goals and one assist.
Mount Aloysius held the Redhawks scoreless in the final period, preserving the 8-6 victory. GoalkeeperÂ
Zoe Swank (Romeoville, Ill. /Â Romeoville) was key, as she made nine saves on the day, including four during the fourth quarter.
With the victory, the Mounties have secured a Semifinal home game in the upcoming AMCC Tournament and set up a Saturday matchup to determine the number one seed. They will host Wells, who is 12-1 on the season after a 15-1 victory against Hilbert, on Wednesday. In their previous matchup, Wells beat the Mounties 15-2.
