Game Recap: Baseball |

Wildcats Drop Mounties

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team stepped out of conference play, on Monday, to host Penn College for a single, nine-inning game. Despite having a lead heading into the ninth inning, the Mounties (19-12) fell to the Wildcats, 11-6.

Mount Aloysius got out ahead in the opening frame, as Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) from third base, giving the Mounties an early 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Wildcats hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. They added a run in the fourth and fifth innings, to go ahead 3-1. Bushey would cut the lead in half, when he tripled home a run, in the bottom of the fifth inning, for his lone hit of the day.

Each team would trade runs again, in the sixth inning. With the Wildcats up, 4-2, Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) doubled on a ball up the middle, using his speed to reach second base. He proceeded to steal third base and wound up scoring when the throw attempt went into left field, allowing Brown to manufacture the run all by himself.

The game remained at 4-3 until the bottom of the eighth, with the Mounties loading the bases with one out. Tyler Weber (Hollsopple, Pa. / Conemaugh Twp) pinch hit and hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating the tying run. Then with two outs, Zach Swanger (Bellefonte, Pa. / Bellefonte Area) pinch hit and singled, driving home the go-ahead run and giving the Mounties a 5-4 lead, needing three outs for the victory.

Unfortunately for the Mounties, Penn College scored five times before recording an out and added two more after, scoring seven total runs and taking an 11-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth. While the Mounties scored one run in their half of the ninth, it would not be enough, as they dropped the game, 11-6.

was the lone Mountie with two hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Quade was the only starter with multiple RBIs, as he accounted for two of the team's five RBIs.

Mount Aloysius will jump back into conference play, on Wednesday, when they host Penn State Altoona. The Lions are 14-15 on the season, with a 5-5 record in AMCC play. The Mounties are currently on top of the conference, with a 9-3 record, while the Lions are in a tie for fourth. With four conference teams still having six games to play, there are plenty of playoff implications riding on Wednesday's games.
