CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team hosted their conference rival, Penn State Altoona, on Wednesday in a conference doubleheader. The Mounties struggled on both sides of the ball, falling to the visitors in both contests.
In Game One, the Mounties gave up five runs in the first inning and another run in the second, to fall behind early, 6-0. They also struggled on the offensive end, tallying just two hits in the contest and failing to score. Mount Aloysius only had one runner reach second base over the seven inning contest, falling 10-0.
Game Two got off to a similar start, with the Mounties giving up eight runs over the first three innings. They got three runs back, in the bottom of the third, for their first runs of the day.
John Griffith (Bryans Road, Md. / Henry E. Lackey)Â drove home the first run with an RBI single. He was followed by an RBI double by
Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. /Â Osbourn Park), making the score 8-2.
Tyler Weber (Hollsopple, Pa. /Â Conemaugh Twp)Â followed Brown with an RBI single, cutting even more into the Altoona lead.
Penn State Altoona would buckle down, adding insurance runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, extending their lead to 11-3. In the Mounties' half of the seventh inning,
Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. /Â Chopticon)Â hit a two-run homerun to right field, which landed well into the trees beyond the fence, cutting the score to 11-5. Quade drove in the next Mountie run, as well, in the eighth inning to crawl to 11-6.
The Mounties added one run in the ninth inning, but that would be the end of it, falling to the Lions, 11-7.
Mount Aloysius is scheduled to wrap up their conference schedule, this weekend, when they travel to Pitt-Bradford. The Panthers are 4-8 in AMCC play, while the Mounties are now 9-5. With so many playoff scenarios riding on this weekend's games, the results will be very important for both teams.
