Titans Knock Off Mounties

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Westminster for a non-conference matchup with the Titans. The Mounties fell behind early and fell 2-1.

After a scoreless first inning for Mount Aloysius, Westminster scored two runs, both of which were unearned. They tallied one of their four total hits in the frame, which was an RBI double.

While the Mounties pitching would limit the Titans to just three more hits for the game, their offense also struggled. Neither team scored from the second through eighth innings. The two teams combined for just five total hits over that span, as the game headed to the ninth inning, with Westminster leading 2-0.

In the ninth inning, Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) reached on an infield single to lead off the frame. Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / St. Mary's) followed with an RBI triple, while representing the tying run at third base with nobody out. Unfortunately for the Mounties, the next three batters all failed to push the run across, as the game ended in a 2-1 score.

Scott Ranallo (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) tossed five quality innings, out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and facing 16 batters while recording 15 outs. He struck out three and did not walk or hit a batter.

Mount Aloysius will now host Mary Washington, on Saturday, in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The Eagles come into the game with a 25-12 record, before their conference tournament next week.

Following the matchup with Mary Washington, the Mounties will host the Championship Round of the AMCC Tournament, beginning on May 9. They will play the first game of the tournament, on Thursday, at 1 p.m., against the winner of the Alfred State-Penn State Altoona series, this weekend.
