Bethany, W.V. -- The Mounties were on the road this weekend, bringing home a win with a steady 3-1 defeat of the Bethany College Bison.
The Mounties opened up the game with a consistent offensive attack on the Bison, with senior midfielder
Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France, Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) putting in two goals for the visitors within the first thirty minutes of action. The Mounties would lead the Bison in first half shots eight to one, maintaining relentless forward pressure. Bethany would raise their pace in the second half, finding six shot attempts in the final forty-five minutes, but the Mounties consistent pressure would again result in a higher shot total for the visitors.
Bez would not relent after his first half performance, earning the hat trick in the 61st minute thanks to a Bethany foul in the box. The penalty kick conversion gave the Mounties their second hat trick of the season, following senior
Juan Camacho's (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) showing against Fredonia earlier this season.
Although the Mountie defense would hold strong for most of the game, a last minute falter would give the Bison a 90th minute goal, preventing the visitors from maintaining the clean sheet. The Mounties have yet to hold an opponent scoreless this season, averaging just over two goals allowed per game this season. Saturday's strong performance from the Mounties leaves them sitting at 2-3-1 on the season, with two games left to play before the start of AMCC regular season competition.
The Mounties look to carry over some of this offensive firepower on Tuesday, Sept. 17 as they take on Saint Vincent College at home. This game will take place at Kelly Field in Cresson, Pa. at 7:30 PM.
