Mounties Silenced by Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team traveled to Washington & Jefferson, for a non-conference matchup against the Presidents. Washington & Jefferson (9-7) out-hit the Mounties (4-7) in every set, on their way to a three-set sweep.

In the first set, the Mounties started out hot, scoring the first four points of the match. The two teams battled and traded the lead back and forth, but the Mounties held the advantage to a 16-13 lead. However, that's where the Presidents found their footing, scoring nine of the next ten points, including six kills, to go ahead 22-17. Down to set point, the Mounties got four straight kills to tie the set at 24. Two of the kills came from Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler). W&J responded with three of the next four points, ultimately winning the first set, 27-25.

The second set played out similarly to the first, with the Mounties grabbing an early lead, stretching it out to 10-5. W&J followed that with seven consecutive points, five kills and two service aces, to jump ahead 12-10. From there, the Mounties were only able to tie the score, at 13-13 and 21-21. Unfortunately, the Mounties were unable to get back in front, falling 25-22.

Both teams traded the lead back and forth in the third set. Mount Aloysius led by as many as three points, while the Presidents biggest lead was five points. Each team fought back, but the Mounties ended up on the wrong end of the final lead, with W&J finishing off the match, 25-21.

Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) led the Mounties with 11 kills, to go along with 23 digs. Mackenzie Barr had six kills and did not commit a hitting error, while also adding three blocks. Libero, Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler), had a team-high, 25 digs, while fellow Sophomore, Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt), dished out a team-high with 16 assists.

The Mounties will head back out on the road, Thursday, when they travel to Chambersburg to take on Wilson. The Phoenix are currently 0-11 on the season. Mount Aloysius has won their previous two meetings with the Phoenix, both in straight sets.
