Women's Volleyball Makes Short Work of Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- On Thursday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team closed out their first of two major road trips, as they traveled to Chambersburg to take on Wilson (0-12). They dominated early and finished off the Phoenix in three straight sets.

Mount Aloysius jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set and used a .364 hitting percentage to grab a 1-0 lead. Wilson had nine kills in the set to go along with nine errors to assist with the Mounties' success.

In the second set, the Mounties continued their hot hitting, with a .500 percentage on 14 kills. They committed just three errors in the set, good enough for their best hitting set of the season. With a 15-11 lead, Mount Aloysius scored eight of the following nine points to give themselves some wiggle room and finished off the set, 25-14.

The Mounties saw the home team fight to get back into the game, as the third set was the closest of the night. However, Mount Aloysius strung together points and gradually extended their lead, on the way to a 25-20 third set victory.

Mount Aloysius had their best hitting game of the season, hitting over .400. The visitors tallied 41 kills, including 15 from Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples), while only committing 10 total errors. In comparison, Wilson had 28 kills and 24 errors, good enough for a .041 hitting percentage. The Mounties contributed to the 24 errors with six blocks. Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) also dished out a game-high, 23 assists.

On Saturday, the Mounties will return home to host a quad match. They will welcome La Roche, Penn State Harrisburg, and Waynesburg, playing each of the latter two. Penn State Harrisburg is 9-3 on the season, after beating Marywood on Thursday night. Waynesburg is 3-7 heading into the weekend, while La Roche is 5-5. Play will begin at 12:00 p.m.
