PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball program earned an AMCC win over the Carlow University Celtics (5-6, 3-1 AMCC) this Saturday, Jan 11.
Post play and turnovers would make the difference for the Mounties in this conference match up. Struggling from behind the arc, the Mounties would focus their efforts inside, with forwards
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) and
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) each scoring double digits. Guard
Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) would lead the Mounties in scoring, posting 18 points to go with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Kohlwaies would also post an impressive defensive output, earning four steals and two blocks across the game.
Carlow's struggles against the Mounties post play would be clear in the free throw disparity, with the Mounties going to the line 17 more times than the Celtics. The Mounties would also plagued Carlow on the perimeter defensively, forcing 25 turnovers while committing ten fewer. The visitors would earn 17 more points off turnovers than the Celtics, including sealing the game with two late-game steals leading to free throws. The Mounties improve to 8-6 this season, with a 3-3 record in the AMCC.
The Mountie women return to action this Wednesday, Jan 15, heading to Baltimore to take on nationally ranked #22/21 John Hopkins University. John Hopkins enters the contest with a 9-3 overall record and a 3-1 record in the Centennial Conference, coming off a 44-54 loss to Gettysburg.
