Mounties Falter Against Penn State Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team fell to the Penn State Schuylkill Lions (10-7, 7-1 PSUAC) this Wednesday, Jan 15. Four Mounties would score in double figures, led by a 26-point effort from forward De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin).

The opening half would be an even affair, with neither team able to separate beyond a two-possession game. Despite the Lions holding a slight edge for the opening ten minutes, solid three point shooting from guards Will Hagwood (Willowick, Ohio, South), Julius Cummings (Cleveland, Ohio, Villa Angela Saint Joseph), and forward Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall) would give the Mounties their first lead of the game with seven minutes left in the first. Despite the earned lead, a cold streak from the Mounties give PS-Schuylkill an opportunity to fight back, with the hosts taking a two-point advantage heading in to halftime.

The second half would see both teams score at will. The Lions would hold a 68% field goal percentage as a team over the final twenty minutes of play, including 4-6 shooting from deep, while the Mounties tried to keep pace with 60% shooting from the floor. Although both teams would have success in the post, the difference would be three point shooting, with the Mounties hitting just 33% of their final half attempts. Turnovers would seal the Mounties fate, with the visitors committing 19 to the hosts 13. The Mounties would hold on deep into the half, even tying the game with under five minutes to play, but the Lions would prove too much, sending the Mounties home with an 82-87 loss.

The Mounties fall to 5-9 this season going in to Saturday's match up against AMCC opponent Hilbert. The Hawks enter the contest 10-6 overall this season and 3-4 in conference, coming off a 68-74 loss to Penn State Behrend.
