Mountie Women Take Down Hilbert In AMCC Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball program improved their conference record with a win against the Hilbert Hawks (1-16, 1-7 AMCC) this Saturday, Jan 18. Forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would lead all scorers with 17 points.

The Mounties would get rolling quickly in Saturday's contest. Tied at 4-4 in the first quarter, two Kosmack free throws would give the Mounties a lead they would hold for the rest of the game. Bolstered by strong rebounding led by forward Ashlie Weaver's (Schellsburg, Pa., Chestnut Ridge) 12 board effort, the Mounties would earn a commanding 35-13 lead going in to halftime, holding the Hawks to just three points in the second quarter. Kosmack's offensive production would be matched by her defensive presence, as the forward would block five shots across the game. Kosmack currently leads the AMCC in blocks per game this season, averaging 2.3 bpg.

Hilbert would come out of halftime with gusto, posting their highest scoring quarter of the game, but the Mounties would continue to extend their lead. Guard Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) would be one of three Mounties to hit double figures in the game, dropping 13 points on 50% shooting in 26 minutes of action. Holding their opponents to 21% shooting from the floor and only 5% shooting from deep, the Mounties would cruise to a 67-31 win, improving their AMCC record this season to 4-3.

The Mounties return to action at home this Wednesday, Jan 22, against conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats enter the game 2-13 this season and 0-6 in AMCC action, coming off a 50-96 loss to La Roche.
