Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Quelled By Panthers

CRESSON, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's basketball lost a home game this Saturday, Jan 25, against the AMCC-leading Pitt-Bradford Panthers (16-1, 9-0 AMCC). Sophomore guard Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall) would post a season-high 24 points, leading all Mounties.

The frenetic pace of the Panthers would put both teams in a scramble early, as the teams would combine for four turnovers in the first minute of action. Continuing with their nonstop press, transition focused game plan, Bradford would carve out a twenty-five point lead heading in to halftime. The Mounties would face 58% shooting from the field and 36% shooting from three, with the visitors taking twelve more first-half shots than the Mounties behind aggressive rebounding and turnover conversion. However, much of the game would be decided at the free throw line, with each team taking twenty free throws in the first twenty minutes of the contest. The game would end with a combined seventy-seven free throws from the programs.

The second half would see no change in strategy from the Panthers, while the Mounties struggled to adapt. Eventually raising their lead to thirty, Pitt-Bradford would ride out the game behind their oppressive defense and constant offense, forcing 32 turnovers out of the Mounties while committing just 17. Amidst the struggles, four Mounties would score in double digits, coming up short to Pitt-Bradford's six double-digit performances, 94-130.

The Mountie men return to action this Wednesday, Jan 29, against the La Roche Redhawks. La Roche enters the contest 7-11 this season and 4-5 in conference, coming off a 74-64 win against Alfred State. The Mounties previously defeated the Redhawks, 82-81, in an earlier match up this season.
