CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball program dropped a conference contest against the La Roche Redhawks (8-11, 5-5 AMCC) this Wednesday, Jan 29. Guards
BJ Busbee (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) and
Will Hagwood (Willowick, Ohio, South) would lead the Mounties in scoring, each putting up 15 points.
The first half would see grinding basketball from both programs as each team struggled to find consistent efficiency. Shooting 37% from the floor, the Mounties would carve out a 5-point advantage heading in to halftime, aided by the Redhawks' 3-16 shooting performance from deep. Both teams would find success taking care of the ball, with the Mounties earning the slight edge in turnovers, committing just 10 to La Roches' 12.
The Mounties' efficiency woes would continue into the second, while the Redhawks would find their shot across the closing twenty minutes. Posting 31% / 11% / 80% shooting splits as a team, the Mounties would attempt to stay in the game behind free throw conversions and interior pressure, but La Roche would discover an offensive rhythm, hitting 6-14 shots from behind the arc to even the score with three minutes left to play. Improving their overall field goal percentage by ten percent, the Redhawks would take a lead behind a late three pointer, with the Mounties falling 63-70 at the end of regulation.
The Mounties return to action this Saturday, Feb 1, as the team heads to Erie to take on AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend. The Lions enter the contest 10-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play, coming off a 75-50 win over Carlow. Penn State Behrend previously defeated the Mounties in a match up earlier this season, with the Lions winning 72-65.
