ERIE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team were defeated this Saturday, Feb 1, by Penn State Behrend (11-9, 6-5 AMCC). Forward
De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin) led the Mounties in scoring with 14.
The Mounties would face stifling defense across the two halves, struggling to find open shots to counter Behrend's high-percentage offense. The Mounties would keep pace in the first half despite the shooting woes, committing just three turnovers and pounding the paint to end the first down nine, as the Lions would shoot 10% more efficiently from the floor than the visitors.
The second half would get away from the Mounties gradually at first, as Behrend chipped away with 53% / 44% / 88% shooting splits as a team. Despite their opponents' uptick in offense, the Mounties would cut the deficit to just one behind 7 points in five minutes from guard
Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall). Behrend's lead would quickly swell, however, as the Mounties would commit nine more turnovers, bolstering the offensive performance of the hosts. The Lions would grow their lead past thirty, with a final Mountie three pointer ending the contest in a 57-86 loss for the visitors.
The Mountie men return to action this Wednesday, Feb 5, at Penn State Altoona. PSA enters the contest 11-8 overall and 7-3 in conference, coming off a 69-73 loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
