Mounties Roll to 4-0 Win Over Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -  Men's soccer delivered a strong performance on Tuesday evening, shutting out Carlow University 4-0 at Highmark Stadium in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matchup.

The Mounties (9-4-1, 3-1-1 AMCC) set the tone early and never looked back, putting three goals on the board in the first 33 minutes of action. Junior Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run) opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clinical finish after maneuvering past the goalkeeper.

Mount Aloysius doubled its lead in the 28th minute as sophomore Cole Taylor (Bedford, PA, Bedford HS / St Francis University) tapped home a pass from freshman Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) who continued to fuel the offense with his vision and precision. Just five minutes later, Martin tallied his second assist of the match, setting up junior defender Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) for the third Mountie goal.

In the second half, senior Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) forced a Carlow own goal after he sent a ball to the goal and it deflected off a Celtic defender and fell into the back of the net.

Statistically, the Mounties dominated across the board, outshooting Carlow 28-8, including 10 shots on goal. Mount Aloysius also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks, consistently keeping the Celtics pinned in their defensive third.

Defensively, the Mounties were organized and efficient, limiting Carlow to just three shots on target and earning their fifth clean sheet of the season.

With the win, Mount Aloysius improves to 3-1-1 in AMCC play and 9-4-1 overall. Men's soccer will get more non-conference action as they travel to Penn State Abington (5-6-3) on Saturday for a 12 PM kickoff.
