CRESSON, Pa. - Women's volleyball continued their dominant stretch of play Tuesday night, sweeping La Roche in straight sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) inside the Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center. With the win, the Mounties extended their winning streak to six matches and improved to 16-6 overall and 4-0 in AMCC play.
The Mounties set the tone early, controlling the pace of the match behind efficient offense and steady serving. The Mounties hit .264 as a team while holding La Roche to just a .058 attack percentage.
Senior Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) once again led the way with 11 kills, 14 digs, and four aces for another strong all-around performance. Junior Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) followed closely with 10 kills and a block, while junior Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido) chipped in eight kills and seven digs of her own.
Freshman setter Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) directed the offense with precision, dishing out a career-high 32 assists and adding three aces.
Defensively, junior Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) continues to do the dirty work as she provided steady play in the back row with 12 digs, while freshman Maya McIlwain (Rural Valley, Pa, West Shamokin) added eight more to help secure the Mountie sweep.
With the sweep, the Mounties are now the only team in the AMCC without a conference loss. They sit atop of the AMCC standings at 4-0 as Head Coach Brianna Baker's Mounties are on pace for their best season in program history. They are just two wins shy of tying the program record (went 18-10 in 2019, lost in semi's).
Next up: The Mounties will host Pitt-Bradford (16-8, 2-2 AMCC) on Saturday at 1 PM inside the ACWC.
