Cresson, PA - Mounties women's volleyball celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Pitt-Bradford (27-25, 25-14, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon inside the ACWC. The victory marked the Mounties' seventh straight win and kept them undefeated in AMCC play at 5-0.
Prior to first serve, Mount Aloysius honored it's two seniors, Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) and Kaylee Smith (Altoona, Pa., Altoona), for their dedication and contributions to the program. Both made their mark on the match as Richards led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Smith added two blocks and anchored the defense at the net.
In the opening set, the Mounties battled through a back-and-forth frame, edging the Panthers 27-25 behind clutch hitting from Richards and Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido). The Mounties carried that momentum into the second, dominating with efficient offense and strong serving to take a 25-14 win. The third set saw the Mounties close out the sweep with steady play on both sides of the ball, earning a 25-19 victory to seal the match despite a late Panther rally.
Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) anchored the defense with 17 digs, while Lazarini added 12 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Setters Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) and Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) combined for 31 assists to pace the attack.
With the win, the Mounties improve to 17-6 overall and 5-0 in AMCC play, extending their winning streak to seven matches as they sit atop of the AMCC standings. The Mounties are now just one win away from tying the program record for victories in a season (went 18-10 in 2019), highlighting their consistency and momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season. The Mounties will travel to Greensburg, PA on Wednesday night for a matchup with the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (2-21, 0-4 AMCC). The game will begin at 7 PM inside Chambers Hall.
