Frederick, MD - Women's volleyball delivered a commanding performance on the road Friday night, sweeping Hood College in straight sets (25-14, 25-21, 25-19) at the Volpe Athletic Center.
The Mounties controlled the match from start to finish, leaning on a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play to secure the win. Senior outside hitter Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) led all players with 16 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double. Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) chipped in with 10 kills, while Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido) contributed across the board with four kills, two aces, and 11 digs.
Set 1 saw Mount Aloysius dominate early, hitting .200 as a team while limiting Hood to a .000 hitting percentage. Hood made things more competitive in Set 2, hitting .206, but the Mounties stayed composed and pulled away late behind timely kills and aggressive serving.
The final set saw Hood post their best hitting percentage of the night (.240), but the Mounties capitalized on Hood's miscues and kept the pressure on from the service line, finishing with 10 aces overall. Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) (16 assists, three aces) and Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) (12 assists) orchestrated the offense effectively, while Paige Logsdon (Wellsboro, Pa, Wellsboro) made her first collegiate start and anchored the net with four blocks
The Mounties improve to 12-6 on the season, while Hood falls to 4-11. The Mounties will look to carry this momentum into conference play, as they host Penn State Altoona on Tuesday at 7 PM in the ACWC. Tuesday's game is a pink out so wear your pink!
