Men's soccer showcased their offensive firepower on a cold Wednesday night in Altoona, dismantling Penn State-Altoona 6-1 in a dominant AMCC road win. The Mounties (8-4-0, 2-1-0 AMCC) came out with intensity and precision, putting the game away before halftime with a five-goal explosion.
First Half Onslaught
The Mounties wasted no time grabbing control. In the 13th minute, star forward Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season (tied first in the AMCC), finishing off a perfectly-placed assist from Joel Martinez (Madrid, Spain, Putnam Science Academy). Martinez then got on the scoresheet himself six minutes later, burying a shot to make it 2-0.
From there, the floodgates opened. Levi Bryne (Storvreta, Sweden, Celsiusskolan) added a third goal in the 25th minute off a setup from Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos), and just two minutes later, Hugo Olausson Ljungmark (Trelleborg, Sweden, Soderlattsgymnasiet) notched his first collegiate goal, thanks to a smooth assist by Leo Lindberg (Östersund, Sweden, Odensalaskolan). Lindberg would then cap off the first-half domination with a goal of his own in the 44th minute, set up by Bryne.
By the halftime whistle, Mt. Aloysius had built a commanding 5-0 lead, putting the match well out of reach.
Second Half Control
Though Penn State-Altoona grabbed a goal in the 67th minute via Felipe Valarde, the Mounties continued to dictate the pace and tempo of the match. Any hopes of a Lions comeback were short-lived.
The Mounties added one more for good measure in the 83rd minute when Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run)scored his fifth goal of the year, with Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School)delivering a clean assist.
Mt. Aloysius put together one of their most complete performances of the season. Six different players recorded either a goal or assist, showing the team's depth and cohesion. The Mounties now sit at 2-1-0 in AMCC play as they will prepare for Alfred State (5-2-4, 2-0-1 AMCC) at home on Saturday. Kickoff is expected for 3:30 PM at Kelly Field.Â
