Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Kosmack’s Double-Double Not Enough in Road Loss

LATROBE, Pa. - Women's basketball traveled to Latrobe this evening to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats (3-2).

The Mounties got off to a 7-2 start, thanks to five quick points by junior Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center). Both teams went back and forth the rest of the quarter, with SVC leading 18-15. The Mounties made things interesting before halftime, closing the gap with an efficient second quarter to trail just 37-33 at the break. However, key runs by Saint Vincent after halftime and a fourth quarter that saw the Mounties outscored 14-7, proved to be the deciding factors in a 69-53 road loss on Tuesday evening inside the Robert S. Carey Center.

The Mounties hung tough early, shooting 63.6% in the second quarter to erase an early deficit and build momentum heading into the locker room. But the Bearcats responded immediately in the third, using a strong run to extend the lead back to double digits. Another extended push in the opening minutes of the fourth widened the gap further as the Mounties' offense cooled, shooting just 20% in the final quarter.

Despite the loss, Kosmack continues her double-double streak to start the season, posting 15 points and 17 rebounds, including 12 on the defensive end.

Sophomore Mariah Hall (New Enterprise, Pa., Northern Bedford) added 8 points and a team-high three assists, while sophomore Masie Reed (Shamokin, Pa., Our Lady of Lourdes) had 7 points on 2-of-3 shooting. Off the bench, Haley Ross (Three Springs, Pa., Southern Huntingdon) played key minutes and provided a spark with 9 points.

Mount Aloysius won the rebounding battle 39-38 and scored 28 points in the paint, but 26 turnovers and the Bearcats' second-half momentum made the difference.

The Mounties (0-3) wrap up their three-game stretch on the road to begin the year and will host undefeated Penn College (6-0) on Saturday. Tip-off will be at 3:00 PM.
