CRESSON, Pa. — Despite a second-half surge led by Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall), Mount Aloysius couldn't close the gap late and fell 87–81 on Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
Tinch powered the Mounties (0–5) with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding 11 rebounds for a double-double that kept Mount Aloysius within striking distance throughout.Ignacio Nascimento-Zschaeck (Barcelona, Spain, Springfield Commonwealth Academy (Mass.)) added 19 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and going a perfect 4 for 4 at the line, while Senique Jenkins (Columbus, Ohio, Imani Christian ) battled to an 11-rebound, 14-point effort inside.
Mount Aloysius relied on a deep bench that produced 31 points, highlighted by efficient minutes from Donovan Bass-Briscoe (Alexandria, Va., Hayfield), who matched Jenkins with 14 points and handed out six assists.
The Mounties went 25 of 32 at the line and forced 17 turnovers, turning them into 20 points. Mount Aloysius closed within a single possession multiple times in the second half, but the visiting side held on with timely shot-making.
The Mounties return to action next week as they continue nonconference play hosting Penn State Du Bois on Tuesday evening.
