Westerville, Ohio - On Monday, women's basketball traveled to Ohio for a Christmas tournament hosted by Otterbein University. The Mounties began play with the Allegheny College Gators (4-5, 2-0 PAC) and were defeated by the score of 84-58.
The Mounties showed early energy, shooting 50 percent in the opening quarter and staying within striking distance at 24-15 after one. Momentum shifted in the second quarter, as Allegheny outscored Mount Aloysius 23-7. During that stretch, leading scorer
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) was forced to the bench after picking up two quick fouls, allowing Allegheny to extend its advantage to a 47–22 lead at halftime.
The Mounties responded with a much stronger second half, showing improved offensive flow and defensive intensity as they were outscored by just one.
Kosmack led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, while also grabbing six rebounds. Senior Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) delivered a big lift after halftime, scoring all 12 of her points in the second half while playing a season-high 21 minutes. Richards knocked down three three-pointers to pace the Mounties' three-point shooting.
The Mounties (3-5, 2-0 AMCC) have a quick turnaround as they'll play the host, Otterbein University (8-3, 3-0 OAC) tomorrow at 12:00 PM inside the Rike Center.
