Westerville, Ohio - Women's basketball wrapped up the Smokey Ballinger Classic this afternoon versus the host team, Otterbein University. They were defeated by the score of 69-32, as the Cardinals held the Mounties to single-digit points in the second and fourth quarters.
The opening quarter was competitive, with Mount Aloysius staying within reach early. The Mounties scored 10 points in the first period, while Otterbein built a narrow 14-10 lead behind balanced scoring and early rebounding.
The game shifted in the second quarter as the Mounties were limited to seven points, continuing a trend as they scored seven points in the second quarter in their loss to Allegheny yesterday. Otterbein took advantage by increasing its offensive efficiency, scoring 21 points in the period and stretching the margin to 35-17 at halftime. Free throws and second-chance opportunities helped the Cardinals create separation before the break.
In the third quarter, Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) connected on a pair of three-pointers, and Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) worked inside to provide consistent scoring and rebounding. However, Otterbein maintained control, extending its lead to 50-28 after three.
The Cardinals closed the game with a 19-point fourth quarter, using depth and ball movement to widen the margin. Otterbein finished with 39 bench points and forced 27 turnovers, converting them into 28 points.
Kosmack recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Mounties, while Isaacs added 10 points on 4-7 from the field.
With the loss, the Mounties fall to 3-6 on the season and 2-0 in AMCC play. They'll host McDaniel College (10-1), who are currently receiving votes this Saturday inside the ACWC at 2:00 PM.
