ALFRED, N.Y. – The Mount Aloysius Mounties traveled on the road this past Saturday to face off against conference opponent the Alfred State Pioneers.
The Mounties (5-16, 3-9) would come out strong this game building a narrow 45-37 lead at halftime, but the Pioneers (3-17, 2-9) kept the game close throughout the second half. With the contest remaining tight in the final minutes, the Mounties strong free-throw shooting proved crucial in securing the victory.
The Mounties shot 40% from the field and a stellar 95.7% (22-of-23) from the free-throw line, hitting key free throws down the stretch to hold their lead.
BJ Busbee (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) led the Mounties with 17 points and six rebounds.
De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin) contributed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Maurice Hudgins (Hayes, Va., Christchurch School) added 10 points while shooting a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe.
The Mounties now turn their attention to their next game, where they will return to home court and face the Carlow Celtics in another conference clash on Saturday at 2 PM.
