Women's Basketball Conquers Carlow in AMCC Win

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team took home a win against the Carlow Celtics (11-10, 9-5 AMCC) this Saturday, Feb 15. Guard Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) led all players in scoring with 26 points. With the victory, the Mounties claim their highest season win total since the 2017-2018 season.

Richards would open the game for the Mounties, hitting her first three of the contest, and continue on an offensive onslaught, scoring 11 in the opening ten minutes of play to help the Mounties to a 20-12 lead. Despite Richards cooling in the second quarter, the Mounties would continue to operate effectively, holding an eight point lead going in to halftime.

Forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would find success inside, posting a 21 point, 18 rebound double double. Her eight offensive rebounds would outpace Carlow's total as a team, with the Celtics grabbing just seven for the game. Overall, the Mounties would take down 17 more boards than the visitors. Despite this disparity, Carlow would fight their way back in the third, taking a nine-point lead into the third quarter behind 66% team shooting from deep and Mountie struggles with ball control.

Coming in to the fourth refocused, the Mounties would put together a clutch offensive performance, shooting 11-13 as a team and 4-5 from three across the closing ten minutes. Guard Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) would hit two threes for the Mounties in the quarter, setting momentum firmly on the side of the hosts, ending 4-7 from deep for the game. The 38-point tidal wave would quell Carlow comeback attempts, as the Mounties would make their free throws down the stretch to claim the 87-78 conference win.

The Mountie women return to action this Wednesday, Feb 19, at home against Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats enter the contest 3-20 overall and 1-13 in AMCC play, coming off a 45-62 loss to Hilbert.
