CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team defeated the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg (3-21, 1-14 AMCC) this Wednesday, Feb 19. Forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) posted a 20 point, 16 rebound double-double, leading all players in both categories.
The Mounties would open the game with a strong defensive showing, shutting down nearly all Bobcat offensive efforts. Although the hosts would start slow offensively, scoring 16 on 36% shooting, they would hold Pitt-Greensburg to just 4 points in the quarter on 2-15 scoring, forcing 5 turnovers across the opening ten minutes. Six Mounties would record steals in the game, with the hosts scoring 17 points off opponent turnovers.
Pitt-Greensburg would find more success in the second quarter but struggle to eat into the deficit, keeping pace with the Mounties to enter halftime down 13. The Mounties would respond to the visitors' adjustments after halftime, coming out of the break shooting 60% from the floor against a bewildered Bobcat defense. Guard
Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) would join Kosmack in double-digit scoring, earning 15 points with transition drives and open three point looks, helping the Mounties swell their lead to 30 going into the final quarter.
Guard
Mariah Hall (New Enterprise, Pa., Northern Bedford) would light up the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of the Mounties' final 20 points on 6-10 shooting. Twelve Mounties would score in the contest, ending proceedings in an 83-40 Mountie victory.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball returns to action at home this Saturday, Feb 22, taking on the Hilbert Hawks. Hilbert enters the contest 2-22 overall and 2-13 in AMCC action, coming off a 62-45 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
