Women's Basketball Hampers Hawks, Finishes Regular Season Third

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team concluded regular season play with their fifth straight win, overcoming Hilbert College (2-23, 2-14 AMCC) this Saturday, Feb 22. Guard Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) would lead the Mounties with 14 points.

The Mounties found their rhythm early. Shooting 55% from the floor and 57% from three in the opening ten minutes, the Mounties would take a decisive 27 to 8 lead into the second quarter. Despite a cold shooting stretch across the final three quarters of play, the Mounties would control every facet of the game, outrebounding the Hawks by 17 while forcing 23 turnovers. The Mounties would earn 17 steals across the contest, good for 27 points off turnovers, while Hilbert would score just 7 points off Mountie turnovers.

Points would be spread across the lineup for the Mounties, with nine players scoring for the hosts across the game. Forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would put together a strong two-way performance, scoring 12 points on 6-8 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 4 steals, while guard Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) would impact nearly every play, recording 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 4 steals in just 22 minutes of play.

Facing a 30 point deficit going in to the fourth quarter, the Hawks would manage to outscore the Mounties across the final ten minutes, but come up well short, with the hosts claiming a 70-41 victory.

The Mountie women enter the AMCC conference tournament as #3 seed, with first round action beginning Tuesday, Feb 25. The Mounties will face off against the #6 seed Pitt-Bradford. Mount Aloysius sits at 2-0 against the Panthers this season, setting a program record for points scored (104 and 105) in each of the match ups.
