Women's Basketball Blasts By Bradford, Advance to AMCC Semifinal

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team tied their program record for wins in a NCAA season with Tuesday's AMCC First Round victory over the Pitt-Bradford Panthers. Forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would lead all scorers with 16 points on 7-7 shooting.

The Mountie women would open their postseason campaign with stifling defensive intensity. Holding their opponents to just 4 points in the first quarter, the hosts would struggle show some signs of struggle offensively in the first half, shooting 34% from the floor as a team in the first twenty minutes. However, lopsided rebounding numbers would more than make up for the low shooting efficiency, as the Mounties would grab 66 boards across the game, with the Panthers taking down 35.

Holding a 12 point lead going in to the third quarter, the Mounties would suddenly find their shot, exploding for 75% shooting from the floor and 5-8 shooting from deep. Although junior Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) would hit two threes in the quarter as the Mounties grew their lead, the guard's impact would be felt most on the defensive end, with Richards snagging a team-high six steals across the game. Again, the Mounties would hold the Panthers to just 4 points in a quarter, going in to the fourth with a 37 point lead.

The Mounties would continue with their oppressive defensive effort, holding the Panthers to 14% shooting from the floor in the fourth. Pitt-Bradford would hit just 16% of their shoots for the game, with the Mountie perimeter defense holding the Panthers to 2-30 shooting from three. Holding on to their lead, the Mounties would claim a 74-33 win, advancing to the next round of the AMCC Post-Season Tournament.

The #3 Mounties advance to the AMCC Semifinals, setting up a rematch against #2 La Roche University. La Roche holds a 2-0 record against the Mounties this season, most recently defeating the #3 seed 52-80. The Mounties look to avenge last year's postseason semifinal loss to the Redhawks.
