The ReMounts of the Day: Men's Volleyball Dutifully Downs Hood In Straight Sets

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's volleyball secured a three set win against the Hood College Blazers (2-6, 0-0 MAC) this Tuesday, Jan 4. Setter Evan Schmidt (Loganville, Pa. , Dallastown Area) would record a team-high 25 assists in the contest, solidifying his place atop the conference leader boards for assists per set (8.57).

The Mounties would take command early, grabbing a 15-10 lead in the first set as Hood struggle with attack errors. Despite both teams contributing service errors throughout the first, the Mounties would outlast the Blazers, claiming the set 25-17 behind three straight Hood errors.

The second set would remain competitive throughout, with Hood opening an early look at momentum with a 12-9 lead. However, the Mounties would continue to pick up points as the set wore on, with Hood's .083 attack percentage biting them down the stretch. Two Blazer errors would put the set even at 18-all, with the Mounties taking full advantage, capturing seven of the next eleven points to take the second. Senior Andrew Wlodarczyk (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) would kill three balls in this run, contributing to a team-high nine kills across the match.

In strong position with a two set lead, the Mounties would suddenly face their stiffest competition from the visitors, with strong Hood serving resulting in eight straight Blazer points early in the third. Down 8-12, the Mounties would respond with a run of their own, winning 17 of the next 22 points to dominantly capture the set and the match, 25-17.

The Mounties return to action on Tuesday, Feb 11, taking on Saint Vincent College at home. The Bearcats enter the contest 2-4 this season, coming off a 3-1 win over Penn State Altoona.
