Women's Basketball Avenges Early Season Loss, Takes Down Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team earned a conference win against Penn State Altoona (10-10, 7-4 AMCC) this Wednesday, Feb 5. Four Mounties would score in double digits to lift the visitors past the Lions.

The Mounties would open the game firing on all cylinders. Shooting 4-7 from deep across the first quarter, the Mounties would earn a five-point lead after ten minutes of action, building their lead with an even stronger shooting performance in the second. Posting 60% shooting from the floor and 50% shooting from three as a team, the Mountie defense would also come alive, holding the Lions to just eight points in the quarter. Guard Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) would prove key for the Mounties from outside, going 3-3 from deep while adding three steals. The Mounties would record fifteen steals across the game, with the defensive effort led by guard Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman), who would end with a team-leading four steals and two blocks.

The second half would prove more difficult for the Mounties, with the visitors' shooting dropping in efficiency. Maintaining a double-digit lead across the third quarter, the Mounties would find their biggest challenge in the fourth. Taking advantage of defensive lapses, the Lions would shoot 72% from the field and 66% from deep in the final ten minutes, while the Mounties would sit at 36% for the quarter, bringing the game close down the stretch. Despite this, the Mounties would hang on, improving their conference record with the 69-62 win.

The Mounties return to action this Saturday, Feb 8, heading to New York to take on Alfred State. The Pioneers enter the contest 6-14 overall and 5-6 in the AMCC, coming off a 68-48 win over Pitt-Greensburg.
