Mounties Finish Perfect Spring Break Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team wrapped up their Sprint Trip, on Wednesday, with the finale of three straight games against Plymouth State. The Mounties finished up their week winning all three games against the Panthers and running their winning streak up to eight.

In Tuesday's first contest, the Mounties jumped ahead early, scoring ten runs in the first three innings and taking command. They would end up winning, 11-6, with Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) improving to 3-1 on the season as the starter. Quade went six innings and allowed four runs, while striking out five. He also went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

Mount Aloysius had to fight off the Panthers in their second matchup. While they never trailed in the game, the Mounties scored first and took a 3-0 lead before Plymouth State scored three to tie the game, in the third inning. Mount Aloysius responded by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning, with an RBI single from Jeremy Eck (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) and a two-RBI single from Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) to help the cause.

The Panthers came as close as 8-7, but the Mountie bullpen limited the scoring over the final three frames, including a scoreless save by Joey DeRubeis (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona), his fourth of the season. Anthony Maseto (Cherry Tree, Pa. / Harmony), the Mountie starter, improved to 2-0 on the season.

Wednesday served as the finale of the three-game set and the trip itself. After a first inning home run by the Panthers, the Mounties scored the next six to take a five-run lead through three innings. Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa. / Cocalico) drove in four of the Mounties' runs, delivering two-run doubles in both the second and third frames. Mount Aloysius added two runs in the fifth inning, sandwiched between one run innings by the Panthers, to bring the score to 8-3. Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / St. Mary's) and Sidric Grove (Clearville, Pa. / Everett) each drove in a run during the fifth inning. Two Panther runs in the ninth inning brought DeRubeis in for another save, which he converted for his fifth of the season and another Mountie victory.

The Mounties will look to continue their impressive start, on Saturday, in their home opener. They will match up against Gettysburg, who comes into the doubleheader ranked 21st in the D3baseball.com poll. The Bullets are a perfect 15-0 to start the season and have won the previous two meetings against the Mounties, in 2023 and 2024.
