BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius men's volleyball team lost a 1-3 match to Buffalo State (13-11, 4-0 AMCC) before avenging an early season loss to Geneva (10-14, 5-6 PAC) 3-0. Senior
Andrew Wlodarczyk (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) led the Mounties with 25 kills across the two games.
Game 1 (Buffalo State)
Despite strong play in the first set, the Mounties would run into a high powered Bengal offense, with Buffalo State maintaining a .462 hitting percentage. The Mounties would keep pace until the final points of the set, when a final 6-of-7 run by the hosts would claim the first 21-25. The Mounties would respond strongly in the second, jumping out to a 15-9 lead, only for the Bengals to mount a 5-point of kills and aces. Even into the final points, the Mounties would hold on to a slight lead, putting away the second 25-23 with a kill from Wlodarczyk.
The final two sets would see similar action, with the Mounties keeping pace early only for the Bengals to pull away late. Buffalo State would put away the match late, going on a 9-10 run in the fourth to dispatch the Mounties 19-25.
Game 2 (Geneva)
The Mounties would rebound from their first game loss with a clutch first set against the Golden Tornadoes. Weathering an early 5 point run from Geneva, the Mounties would steadily climb back throughout the first, finding themselves down 20-23 going in to the final points of the set. The Mounties would find three consecutive kills to even the score, executing down the stretch to put away the razor-thin first, 28-26.
Carrying the momentum from the first, the Mounties would control the second set, pulling away to a 22-15 lead. Despite the strong play, Geneva would fight back, pulling within three points before the Mounties would again put the set away, 25-21.
