Altoona, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team (8-15, 2-3 AMCC) traveled to face conference opponent the Penn State Altoona Lions (12-13, 3-2 AMCC). The Mounties were looking to avenge their earlier season loss to the Lions, a defeat in four sets.
What followed was a back-and-forth contest that would go all five sets. Each set was tightly contested, with the margin of victory never exceeding six points. Unfortunately, the Mounties would come up just short. The final scores were 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, and 15-17, with the Mounties ultimately falling 3-2 in the fifth set.
Despite the loss, there were several standout performances for the Mounties.
Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio, Bishop Hartley) led the team offensively with 19 kills, while
Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) anchored the defense with five blocks.
Evan Schmidt (Loganville, Pa. , Dallastown Area) had a stellar night as the primary setter, contributing 47 assists.
Corey Obeldobel (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was also a key contributor, leading the team with 19 digs.
The Mounties will be back in action this Saturday, hosting Houghton for their final regular-season match. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 PM.
