Game Recap: Baseball |

Mounties Race Past Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team went back on the road, on Monday, as they traveled to play Penn College in a non-conference doubleheader. Despite falling behind in Game One, the Mounties offense carried them to two victories.

In the first game, disaster struck in the second inning for the Mounties. The Wildcats broke the game open with eight runs in the inning, seven of which were earned, to get out to an 8-0 lead.

Mount Aloysius started the tall task of climbing out of the 8-0 hole in the third inning, with three runs. Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) delivered the first run with an RBI single, then later scored on a two-run homer by Owen McDermott (West Leechburg, Pa. / Leechburg), cutting the score to 8-3. Bushey then drove in another run in the fourth, on a sacrifice fly, making the score 8-4.

The Mounties then flipped the score, in the fifth inning, as they scored seven times to grab an 11-8 lead. Jeremy Eck (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) hit a two-run homer, while Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / St. Mary's), Sidric Grove (Clearville, Pa. / Everett), and Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon), also drove in runs in the frame.

Grove and Griffin Tunison (Luthvle Timon, Md. / Dulaney) added RBIs in the 6th inning, growing the Mountie lead to 13-8. Mason Gearhart (Cherry Tree, Pa. / Purchase Line) provided quality pitching out of the Mountie bullpen, as he tossed the final 5.2 innings and did not allow a run, while scattering six hits and striking out four, earning the win.

Game Two went Mount Aloysius' way early and often. The Mounties got two runs in the top of the first and added two more by the fourth inning. Penn College pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth, but the Mounties responded with a two-run homer by Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa. / Cocalico) in the top of the fifth, to make the score 6-1, which the Mounties held to secure the victory.

Troy Misiura (Coalport, Pa. / Glendale) allowed just three hits over seven innings, earning the victory on the mound. He struck out eight Wildcats in the contest.

Mount Aloysius is set to travel to Juniata, on Wednesday, before heading to Penn State Behrend, on Saturday.
