Mounties Outlast Pioneers to Complete Regular Season Sweep

Alfred, N.Y. - The Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse team (4-6, 3-1 AMCC) would travel up to New York to face the Alfred State Pioneers (3-7, 1-3 AMCC), looking for their third conference win of the season. The Pioneers would look to avenge a tight, 9-8 loss from their previous battle against the Mounties. 

First Quarter: 2-1 Alfred State
  • The Mounties would score the first goal of the match off a free position shot (FPS) from Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / North County).
  • Alfred State would respond, scoring a goal from outside the box and a chipped goal to take a 2-1 lead.

Second Quarter: 5-3 Mount Aloysius
  • The Mounties got started early with Cook weaving through the Pioneer's defense to score her second of the night and make the game 2-2.
  • Cook would complete her hat-trick almost two minutes later, scoring off a FPS to make the game 3-2.
  • Alfred State would also take advantage of free position shots, scoring one of their own to make the game 3-3.
  • Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel) would power home to make it 4-3. 
  • Cook would score another FPS as the Mounties would go into halftime with a 5-3 lead.

Third Quarter: 7-3 Mount Aloysius
  • The Mounties would be in control in the third quarter, scoring 2 goals and not conceding any. 
  • Cook would drive through Alfred State's defense to further the Mounties' lead.
  • Amanda Price (Columbia, Pa. / Hempfield) would take advantage of a man-up opportunity in the last minute of the quarter, spinning around the defenders to score the Mounties' seventh goal of the afternoon. 

Fourth Quarter: 8-6 Mount Aloysius
  • Alfred State would be in control this quarter, scoring three times to the Mounties once. 
  • Larios-Soto would score a backhanded goal to give the Mounties a 8-4 lead with just over four-and-half minutes left to play.
  • Alfred State would fight back, scoring two more goals to finish the game 8-6.

Key Stats
  • Goalkeeper Kendall Cramer (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) would make 7 saves.
  • The Mounties would cause 14 turnovers, just slightly more than Alfred State's 13.
  • The Mounties would muster 26 shots, 13 of which were on goal.
  • Cassidy Cook would reach 25 goals scored this season, the fourth-most in the AMCC.

The goal scorers for the Mounties were: Cook with five, Larios-Soto with two, and Price with one.

Women's lacrosse takes a break from conference play to face Cedar Crest in a makeup game on Thursday, April 17th. Cedar Crest enters the contest 5-5 after a 29-0 loss against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
