Men's Volleyball Clinches Playoff Position for First Time in Program History

CRESSON, Pa.-- Mount Aloysius men's volleyball (9-15, 3-3 AMCC) faced off against the Houghton University Highlanders (2-21, 1-5 AMCC) as the Mounties celebrated Senior Night. Stakes were high for this final game of the regular season, as a win would send the Mounties to the playoffs and a loss would end their year.

Despite the pressure, the Mounties would come out firing, winning the first 25-14, holding a lead for the entire set. Although the second set would prove competitive, with the Mounties winning 25-20 after a tied set at 14-all, the third would be another straightforward affair. The Mounties would take the match 25-13 in the third, hitting over .250 more efficiently than the Highlanders for the game. Senior Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio, Bishop Hartley) would lead the team with ten kills in the game, also earning three aces. Senior Tayshaun Johnson (Uniondale, N.Y., Uniondale) would tally five blocks, also a team high.

The Mounties return to action next week for the AMCC playoffs, heading to Buffalo State to take on the Bengals for first-round action. Buff State enters the contest 19-13 overall with a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. The Mounties fell to the Bengals earlier this season 1-3, and will look to avenge the loss for the first playoff victory in program history.
